This cranberry sauce is a Thanksgiving staple in my household and the perfect side dish complement to the main course.

- ½ cup water
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries
- ¼ cup cane sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 large macintosh apple
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions
Cook cranberries
In a large saucepan, combine ½ cup water, ¼ cane sugar, ¼ brown sugar, cinnamon stick, 12 ounces cranberries and 1 peeled and chopped macintosh apple.
Simmer sauce
Bring to a boil for 1 minute, then reduce to medium/low heat and let simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Cranberries should pop and sauce should thicken.
Finish and serve
Remove sauce from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Chill in the refrigerator for an hour if you prefer. Serve and enjoy.
Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Simmer on low heat for 10 minutes to reheat.
